초록본고는 깨달음과 닦아감의 영역에서 원효와 지눌의 돈점관을 비교하고 있다. ‘Ⅱ. 수행론’에서는, 원효와 지눌의 수행론에 대해서 간략하게 알아보았다. 원효의 수행론은 대승불교의 52계위설을 매우 중시하고 그 설명이 매우 치밀하고 체계적인 특징이 있다. 그리고 지눌의 수행론은 선교회통을 위해서 성립된 ‘돈오점수론’과 중국에서 수입한 간화선에 담긴 ‘돈오돈수론’을 모두 함께 가지고 있다. ‘Ⅲ. 깨달음’에서는, 깨달음[悟]의 측면에서 두 사상가의 견해를 알아보았다. 원효는 금강삼매경론의 해설을 통해서 ‘돈오론’의 견해를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있는데, 돈오의 시점은 초지(初地)의 단계로 판단된다. 지눌도, 항상 ‘돈오론’의 견해를 가지고 있다. 다만, 돈오의 시기에 대해서는, 돈오점수의 입장에서 ‘십신 초위’라고 하고, 돈오돈수의 입장에서 ‘묘각’으로 보는 것으로 추정된다. ‘Ⅳ. 닦아감’에서는, 닦아감[修]의 측면에서 두 사상가의 견해를 알아보았다. 원효는 거의 모든 수행단계에서 전개되는 ‘점수론’을 지지하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 지눌은 입장에 따라서 견해가 극명하게 갈리는데, 돈오점수의 입장에서는 수행의 거의 모든 단계에서 전개되는 ‘점수론’을 지지하고 있고, 돈오돈수의 입장에서는 묘각의 단계에서 전개되는 것으로 추정되는 ‘돈수론’을 지지하고 있다.This paper deals with the sudden/gradual view of Wonhyo and Chinul at the aspect of enlightenment and cultivation. First of all, Wonhyos thoughts of Seon is very delicate and systematic based on the system of 52 steps in Mahayana Buddhism. And Chinuls thoughts of Seon has two theories at the same time: the theory of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation and the theory of sudden enlightenment and sudden cultivation. At the aspect of enlightenment, Wonhyo has the theory of sudden enlightenment and the enlightenment occurs at the first step of ten stage (bhūmi). Chinul also has the theory of sudden enlightenment at the aspect of enlightenment but has two different steps of enlightenment: the first step of ten faith in the theory of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation and the ultimate step in the theory of sudden enlightenment and sudden cultivation. At the aspect of cultivation, Wonhyo has the theory of gradual cultivation and the cultivation takes place at every steps in the 52 steps. In the theory of sudden enlightenment and gradual cultivation, however, Chinul has the theory of gradual cultivation and the practitioner cultivates at every steps. And in the theory of sudden enlightenment and sudden cultivation, Chinul has the theory of sudden cultivation and the practitioner finishes the cultivation at the ultimate step. |
