초록
This paper is a study of the obsession about originality and its conservativeness as revealed in three texts related in Buddhism. but for the first of all, I need to make clear some some specisific characterisics among three texts I draw on. Three texts I draw on are Samgusagi(삼국사기, 1145), Hadonggosunggen(해동고승전, 1215), and Samgukyusa(삼국유사, 1281). As a aspect of Buddhism, Samgusagi is said to be out of focus because it is most famous dynastic history book what was written by well knowned Confucian scholar, Kim Bu Sik(김부식). As we know, Confucianism was been tension with Buddihism for a long time, but the reason I choose is the rest two texts based on the books historical records. Eventhough it looked different philosphycal goal in surface, they are linked each other in profound structure. The rest books, Hadonggosunggen and Samgukyusa is very famous buddhism book. Handonggosunggen is well knowned buddhistic hagiograpy and Samgukyusa is a kind of history book which written through buddhistic approch.
I tried to analysis above three texts through comparison among three textss similarity and dissimilarity. I make lists that can show us one same historical document makes different meaning in the each texts. Let me explain what I mean with an example from three texts. Harangdo(화랑도) story was ed in three texts, but the meaning of this institution is different which due to location in contexts. In Samguksaki, it is just a faithful youth group which swears allegiance to King, but in the other texts, its meaning change apparently to represent symbol that buddhas power guiding the Kingdom. same hystorical record, but meaning is changed to how can handle that document in contexts.
I reached a conclusion through these comparison, the three texts are connected in obession about origniality whatever theirs different philosphical backgrounds. In Samgusaki has the obession about Chines cluture that regards Koreans root as beings from china, and In Hadonggosungen also have same tendency which every standard of judgement is Chinese buddhism. but Samgukyusa is different. it is same obession but target is different. Samgukyusa is not care about china, its target is to united kingdom of Samguk(통일신라), very previous dynasty of Goryou(고려)
I think these kind of mentality is tell us why religion must be stick to conservatism and how they make the originality in order to control people. I can see Korean religious characteristics through this study. One is obsession about originality that stand on fundamental attitude, and the other is using religion for the sake of the power of rulers and selfish interests. but if one have strong obsession about originality, theres no the quality of the life and pleasure, no narration about its dynamic life
